Update on Pit Bull/Terrier Mix “Justice” Recovering From Severe Injuries
Shelbyville/Shelby County Animal Shelter has provided an update on Justice, the Pit Bull/Terrier mix rescued in November after being found with severe burns and other injuries. According to a Facebook post published Thursday, January 3, Justice is showing signs of steady improvement and is beginning the new year in better condition.
Justice was originally brought to the shelter on November 2 by animal control. At that time, the young dog was in critical condition, suffering from burns and lacerations, including injuries to his tongue that may have resulted from licking off the chemicals that caused his wounds. He had no microchip and was found with a collar hanging loosely around his neck near 900 North and 400 West in Shelby County, Indiana.
Since his rescue, Justice has received continuous medical care from staff at the Shelbyville/Shelby County Animal Shelter, foster parents, and specialists at IndyVet Emergency & Specialty Hospital. In recent weeks, he has gained weight, is no longer reliant on a catheter, and is described as eating well and showing improved strength.
According to Chris Browder of the shelter, Justice’s personality has become more visible as his health improves. He noted that the dog has been “very affectionate” and continues to respond positively to caregivers. The shelter also reported that Justice is scheduled for upcoming eye surgery and may be neutered during the same procedure.
Justice is estimated to be between two and three years old. The shelter confirmed that he has received support from individuals and organizations in the form of donations, gifts, and messages.
The investigation into Justice’s condition remains ongoing. Authorities have not yet identified who was responsible for his injuries.
The shelter stated that it remains committed to pursuing accountability in the case while continuing to focus on Justice’s recovery and long-term well-being.
