Bridgeport police are urgently seeking the person responsible for a heartbreaking case of animal cruelty after an injured and severely malnourished dog was abandoned late Monday night.
According to police, officers were dispatched to the Shell Street area following reports of a stray dog in distress. When they arrived, they discovered a small, mixed-breed female who was in shockingly poor condition. She was dangerously thin, her body frail from lack of food, and she bore a large, open wound across her ribcage that appeared consistent with a severe burn.
Investigators said it was immediately clear the dog had endured “prolonged neglect and cruelty.” Her suffering was not the result of a single incident but the consequence of extended abuse and abandonment.
Animal control officers rushed her to an emergency veterinarian, hoping that medical treatment could save her. Tragically, the extent of her injuries and weakness proved overwhelming. Despite all efforts, veterinarians determined that the most humane decision was to euthanize her, sparing her from further pain.
Police are now investigating and urging anyone with information about who abandoned this dog to come forward. The department stressed that animal cruelty is a crime and promised that justice will be pursued for this innocent life that suffered so deeply.
