Heartbreaking: Little Dog Stays By His Injured Best Friend’s Side After Being Dumped

Loyal Pup Refuses to Leave Injured Friend Stranded on Freeway Until Rescuers Arrive

On New Year’s Eve in Southern California, what could have ended in tragedy for two stray dogs turned into an unforgettable rescue story of loyalty, courage, and compassion.

A Frantic Call for Help

Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy Dog Rescue, received a panicked call late that night from a driver on a busy freeway. The caller had spotted two dogs darting across traffic, narrowly escaping speeding vehicles, and feared that one — or both — had been hurt.

Hall, who has dedicated her life to saving abandoned and at-risk animals, immediately rushed to the scene. On the shoulder of the freeway, she began combing the brush for any sign of the terrified dogs.

A Heartbreaking Discovery

Soon, Hall spotted what the caller had described: a large Great Pyrenees lying motionless on the ground. Beside her stood a small, scruffy wire-haired pup who was frantically pacing but refusing to leave his friend’s side.

“It was complete loyalty,” Hall told The Dodo. “The little one could run and move freely, but he chose to stay right there with her. He wasn’t going anywhere without her.”

Hall later named the devoted little pup Ambrose, and his injured friend became Seraphina.

Ambrose’s Devotion

Though shaken and exhausted, Ambrose’s unwavering loyalty seemed to comfort Seraphina as she lay scared and unable to get up. When Hall and her team approached, Ambrose’s mood shifted instantly.

“Ambrose was not going to leave her behind on the side of that freeway,” Hall recalled. “When he realized we were there to help, he was overjoyed — jumping up and down as if to say, ‘Please save her!’”

Rescue and Relief

Hall first secured Ambrose in her rescue van, then carefully lifted Seraphina to safety. The pair were rushed to a veterinary clinic for urgent evaluation.

To Hall’s relief, Ambrose was perfectly healthy. Even better, Seraphina’s injuries, which initially looked severe, turned out to be minor. Vets determined her leg was not broken — just a small, treatable wound and some soreness from the ordeal.

Healing Apart, Reuniting Soon

For now, Seraphina remains under veterinary care to ensure a smooth recovery, while Ambrose has been placed in a loving foster home. But their separation is only temporary.

“Ambrose is with a foster until she heals, and then we are going to put them back together,” Hall explained.

In the meantime, Hall continues to visit both dogs, who greet her with overwhelming affection each time.

“Seraphina gets up on her back legs and throws her arms around me, hugging nonstop,” Hall said. “And Ambrose’s joy is the same every single time. They are beyond grateful. I have never seen two dogs so happy and thankful to be rescued.”

A Story of Friendship and Hope

The bond between Ambrose and Seraphina is a moving reminder of the loyalty dogs show not just to humans, but to each other. Thanks to one Good Samaritan’s call and the tireless work of Logan’s Legacy, the pair now have a chance at a safe and happy future — together.
