Puppy Revived with Narcan After Fentanyl Overdose — Owner Faces Multiple Felony Charges
Lacey, Washington — A tiny puppy named Espresso is making a miraculous recovery after nearly dying from fentanyl exposure — and prosecutors say his owner is now facing serious criminal charges.
On the morning of July 15, Nisqually Public Safety officers responded to a call about a woman slumped in her vehicle in the parking lot of Old Nisqually Markets near Lacey. Inside the car, officers found two glass pipes and a white powder coating the driver’s seat.
The woman, identified as Misty Reddoch, admitted the powder was fentanyl and surrendered the pipes, a bag of suspected black tar heroin, and several hypodermic needles. She also asked officers to take her two dogs — a newborn puppy and an older dog — knowing she would be going to jail.
A search of the car turned up multiple IDs, a passport, and a loaded Smith & Wesson handgun in the trunk. Because Reddoch has a prior felony burglary conviction, it is illegal for her to possess a firearm. Field tests confirmed the drugs included heroin.
While officers waited for a tow truck, they noticed the puppy becoming lethargic and “nodding off” — signs of a possible overdose. Emergency medical technicians administered Narcan, an opioid overdose reversal drug, saving the puppy’s life. Both dogs received further Narcan treatment from animal services, with three doses in total — two for the adult dog and one for the puppy.
Espresso was later transferred to Seattle Humane, where staff confirmed he had made a full recovery. In an Instagram post, the shelter wrote:
“Espresso has been through a lot over the past week! He nearly died from a fentanyl overdose and had to be revived with Narcan.”
Espresso will be available for adoption once legal matters are settled.
