Londonderry Animal Charity Raises Funds for Dogs Thrown from Car
A Londonderry-based animal charity is raising money for two dogs—believed to be a mother and her puppy—who were thrown from a moving car in County Sligo, sustaining multiple injuries.
Friends of Rescue, based in Derry, has launched a GoFundMe campaign to help the pair recover from their ordeal. The dogs are now receiving treatment at Inishfree Veterinary Hospital. The older dog suffered an eye injury and head trauma, while the approximately 14-week-old puppy was found emaciated, with severe worm infestations, damaged skin, and ear problems.
“This little mum and baby were seen being thrown from a car on Monday evening,” the charity said in a statement. “Like all good mamas, she took the impact—her head and eye are in terrible shape. The baby boy is skin and bones. Whoever owned these dogs was cruel beyond words. Our priority now is helping them heal from this trauma.”
Friends of Rescue expressed gratitude to everyone involved in the rescue, including the women who witnessed the incident and rushed the dogs to safety, the Garda for responding quickly, Inishfree vets for providing overnight care and pain relief, and Animals in Need Donegal for donating their first proper meal.
In a social media update, Inishfree Veterinary Hospital confirmed that the dogs have received medical treatment and are now resting in a warm bed with food and “plenty of cuddles.”
