Dog Discovered Abandoned in Warren Trash Bin Now Clings to Hope: All He Wanted Was to Be Loved

Dog Found Abandoned in Dumpster Now Recovering with Love and Care

A heartbreaking discovery was made by sanitation workers in Trumbull County when they found a dog abandoned inside a dumpster, just moments before the container was set to be emptied.

The Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County and the Warren City Dog Warden are actively investigating the case and reviewing surveillance footage from the area. Authorities believe there is no way the dog could have ended up in the dumpster on her own — she was deliberately placed there.

The dog, now named Phoenix, was rushed to receive urgent veterinary care. She arrived with open wounds on all four legs, as well as injuries to her head and neck that had become infected. She was struggling to walk, and vets had to examine her back legs and damaged teeth.

Fortunately, Phoenix had no broken bones, but she was severely dehydrated and malnourished. Her wounds are now being treated, and she’s under close observation during her recovery.

Despite all she’s endured, Phoenix is proving to be a fighter. She’s slowly healing — and even showing a playful side. She adores playing with balls, often carrying one around for hours, and she has a soft spot for Kong toys and treats.

In a heartwarming show of kindness, a generous donor has stepped forward to cover 100% of Phoenix’s medical expenses. While her recovery continues and she’s not yet ready for adoption, the Animal Welfare League is still accepting donations to support the ongoing investigation and to help other dogs in need.

Phoenix’s journey is far from over, but her spirit is strong — and she’s surrounded by people who now care deeply for her.
