Starving Puppy Found Alone in Bronx Apartment Fights to Stay Alive

Emaciated Puppy Rescued From Bronx Apartment Building Now Fighting for Her Life

Just two nights ago, a tiny, emaciated dog was found in horrific condition inside a Bronx apartment building by Second Chance Rescue NYC. The non-profit organization immediately rushed her to their veterinary partner for emergency care.

According to the rescue team, the puppy — now named Baby Gina — was weak, vomiting, and clearly suffering when found. Bloodwork and X-rays revealed severe anemia, low protein levels, and enamel hypoplasia, all due to extreme malnutrition. Despite the trauma, Gina survived her first night in serious but stable condition.

Since then, Gina has shown signs of improvement each hour. Although she still faces major health challenges — including a urinary tract infection and the risk of refeeding syndrome — her medical team remains optimistic.

Tiny but determined, Gina is proving to be a fighter. Her rescuers are hopeful that with continued care, she’ll make a full recovery and finally get the chance to live the life she deserves.
