Dog Trapped In Tornado Debris Saved Just In Time In Texas Town

Trapped Beneath Tornado Wreckage, This Dog Was Given a Second Chance

As the small town of Laguna Heights, Texas, reeled from the destruction of a deadly tornado, a moment of hope emerged from the rubble.

On Sunday morning, as an ABC News crew set up to report on the aftermath, they heard faint cries coming from beneath a collapsed home. A terrified dog was trapped under the wreckage, barely alive.

Instead of waiting for help, ABC News sound technician Jim Gower took action. Grabbing a nearby shovel, he began digging through the debris. Within minutes, he had carved out a hole large enough for the scared pup to poke its head out—but the dog hesitated to come all the way.

Trying to earn its trust, Gower gently stroked the dog’s chin and ears. Then someone handed him a Slim Jim meat stick. Gower offered it, and the hungry dog took a bite—enough to finally convince it to crawl out to safety.

Thanks to that small act of compassion, the dog walked free, shaken but alive.
