Heartbreaking: Driver Ties Puppy to Car, Drags It 700 Meters Until Someone Spoke Up

Puppy Tied to a Car and Dragged in Penang — Rescuers Step In to Save Its Life

A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Penang when a helpless puppy was tied to the back of a car and dragged along the road for nearly 700 meters before a passerby stopped the driver.

The scene, captured by a shocked bystander, quickly circulated on social media after it was posted by the local rescue group, Penang Hope of Strays.

The driver — the dog’s owner — claimed he had no idea the puppy was tied to his vehicle. According to him, it was his cousin who had allegedly fastened the leash without his knowledge. He said he only realized something was wrong when a passerby waved him down.

Once alerted, the owner stopped the car, untied the puppy, and rushed home to treat its injuries. He later explained that he had planned to take the dog to the vet the next morning and expressed deep regret, saying his whole family, especially the cousin, loves the dog very much. He also took full responsibility for the incident.

The puppy, however, had suffered multiple abrasions and injuries to its front and back legs and body. Thanks to the swift response from the SPCA Seberang Prai and Penang Hope of Strays, the dog was taken immediately to a veterinary hospital for urgent care.

An outpouring of support from the public helped cover the puppy’s medical expenses. The rescue team shared that the little one is now in stable condition, though still traumatised. Their current focus is on preventing infection and ensuring a full physical and emotional recovery.

As of now, the team has not decided whether the dog will return to its previous home or be put up for adoption. That decision will only be made once the puppy is fully healed and emotionally ready.

The rescue group expressed heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated and sent messages of support. Stories like this serve as painful reminders — but also as powerful calls to protect those who cannot speak for themselves.
