Dog Rescued After Living Six Years Underground
In Qujing Town, Yunnan Province (China), a female dog accidentally fell into a 50-meter-deep cave and spent six long years trapped inside. She survived among piles of trash, receiving only faint rays of sunlight from the cave entrance, and was almost forgotten by everyone.
In 2021, a villager named Liu Wubing heard barking while throwing out garbage and discovered the dog was still alive. He contacted Wang Hongjie, an experienced climber, and Lu Fashong from the China Cave Rescue Alliance to help organize a rescue.
To protect the dog’s eyes—accustomed to years of darkness—the rescue team entered the cave at night. They patiently fed her several times to gain her trust. After weeks of effort, the dog was finally lifted out safely on November 30, 2021.
She was named Dian Dian. At first, she was frightened, but once brought to Liu’s home, she quickly calmed down and slept for days, likely due to years spent without sunlight. She is now gradually adjusting to daylight and being cared for with love by Liu’s family.
The story quickly spread on Chinese social media, moving thousands of people who admired Dian Dian’s extraordinary will to survive and the volunteers’ selfless dedication to animal rescue.
