4-Month-Old Puppy Left For Dead With Multiple Fractures Begins Miraculous Recovery

4-Month-Old Puppy Survives Severe Abuse — Now Fighting for Her Life

When Indianapolis Animal Care Services discovered a tiny, 4-month-old puppy clinging to life, she had endured unimaginable abuse. Severely injured and left for dead, the puppy — later named Halsey — was rushed into the care of Every Dog Counts Rescue (EDC), a Zionsville-based nonprofit specializing in saving the sick and injured.

Halsey’s condition was heartbreaking. She had suffered multiple skull fractures, a broken jaw, bleeding in one eye, several broken ribs, and badly displaced fractures in her forearm. The trauma had been left untreated for so long that her tiny body was fighting off a severe infection, with skin tissue beginning to break down around her leg.

“She really isn’t out of the woods yet,” said Tara Harris, Director of EDC. “We’re trying to save her leg, but it may need to be amputated. Her jaw may also require surgery if it doesn’t heal on its own.”

Despite her devastating injuries, Halsey is proving she has the heart of a fighter. She is now recovering in a loving foster home, surrounded by care and compassion for the very first time in her young life.

While Halsey’s road to healing is long and uncertain, one thing is clear: she will never again face pain and neglect alone. Donations are being collected to help cover the thousands of dollars in medical bills required to give her the best chance at survival.

“We’re a medical rescue,” Harris explained. “If we receive more than Halsey needs, those funds will go directly to helping other sick and injured dogs who deserve a chance.”

✨ Halsey’s story is one of unthinkable cruelty — but also of resilience, hope, and the power of community compassion. With love and support, this little survivor can finally begin the life she was meant to have.
